African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary

Nestled between rolling green hills in the Thornhill area just a 20-minute drive from Jeffreys Bay, African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary is a peaceful, non-profit refuge and rehabilitation centre dedicated to treating orphaned and injured animals. 

Set within spacious, tranquil grounds close to the ocean, the park hosts over 250 species of indigenous and exotic birds housed across beautiful enclosures and a massive regional aviary. 

Beyond its rich birdlife—which includes majestic black eagles, macaws, and endangered blue cranes—the sanctuary acts as a safe forever-home for a variety of rescued mammals, such as cheetahs, servals, meerkats, wallabies, and various buck species. 

With a strict no-touch policy that ensures animal dignity and welfare, it stands out as an excellent, highly educational family destination featuring lush lawns, designated braai and picnic spots, and an on-site cafe serving light meals.
